Campus Tour to Vijayapura : An Enriching Educational Experience
On 22nd February 2025, the girl students of Shaheen Degree College embarked on a campus tour from Bidar to Vijayapura, traveling in two buses to explore the historical and cultural landmarks of the city. The tour aimed to provide an insightful learning experience, allowing students to witness the architectural marvels and historical significance of the region. The journey began with a visit to Ibrahim Rauza, an exquisite tomb and mosque complex often referred to as the ‘Taj Mahal of the Deccan.’ The students admired the symmetrical layout, intricate carvings, and the rich history behind this remarkable structure.
The next stop was Malik-e-Maidan, home to one of the largest medieval cannons in the world. The students were captivated by its historical importance and took the opportunity to learn about the battles of the Adil Shahi dynasty. Following this, the group proceeded to Shaheen PU College for a lunch break, where they enjoyed a delicious serving of Biryani, refueling themselves for the remainder of the trip. Post lunch, the students visited the museum inside the Gol Gumbaz campus, which featured a collection of artifacts, inscriptions, and exhibits detailing the history of the Adil Shahi rulers. The museum visit provided them with a deeper understanding of the region’s glorious past.
The final and most anticipated stop of the tour was Gol Gumbaz, renowned for its colossal dome and fascinating whispering gallery. Students were thrilled to experience the unique acoustics of the monument, where even the softest whisper could be heard across the vast chamber. They also explored the grand tomb of Muhammad Adil Shah, appreciating its architectural brilliance and historical significance. The visit to Gol Gumbaz served as the perfect conclusion to the educational trip, leaving the students with a newfound appreciation for Vijayapura’s rich heritage.
The campus tour was a resounding success, combining education with exploration in a way that deeply engaged the students. It provided an opportunity to not only learn about history but also to bond with peers and faculty members outside the classroom. The students expressed their gratitude for the well-organized trip, which left them with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation for India’s architectural and cultural legacy.
