Shaheen Cleanliness Campaign: A Step Towards Change

The ‘Shaheen Cleanliness Campaign,’ inspired by the vision of Dr. Abdul Qadeer, Chairman of Shaheen Group of Institutions, and guided by Madam Afra Naz, Principal of Shaheen Degree College, aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and awareness regarding cleanliness among the student body. Active participation from dedicated volunteers, students from BA 1st Sem (Boys) and BA 3rd Sem (Girls), played a crucial role in the campaign’s success.
The campaign employed a multifaceted approach, including door-to-door awareness sessions, where volunteers visited each classroom to emphasize the importance of cleanliness. Through impactful speeches, drama performances, and songs, the volunteers effectively communicated the message of personal responsibility in maintaining clean surroundings. The use of interactive tools such as placards, songs, and dramatic presentations added a creative and entertaining element to the initiative, ensuring engagement and memorability.

Spanning over 7 days, the campaign ensured sustained efforts and repeated interactions to reinforce the significance of cleanliness. With a reach exceeding 2000 students at Shaheen Shahpur gate Campus, the widespread participation

showcased the collective commitment of the student community toward fostering a cleaner and healthier environment.
The campaign’s success was evident in its achievement of objectives and the lasting impact it left on the campus community. The collaboration of students, under the leadership and coordination of Siraj Sir, demonstrated the effectiveness of collective efforts in promoting a culture of cleanliness and responsibility. On 12 October 2023, a poignant farewell ceremony unfolded at Shaheen Degree College, marking the culmination of the academic journey for both male and female students. The event, graced by notable figures such as Dr. Abdul Qadeer, the college’s Chairman, and Director Meher Sultana, exuded a bittersweet atmosphere as heartfelt goodbyes were exchanged. Stirring addresses from the dignitaries instilled motivation and hope for the graduates’ futures. Reflecting on their time at Shaheen, students shared cherished memories from both the college premises and hostel life. Faculty members, too, reminisced about their experiences with the departing students.
The program reached its conclusion with a poignant note from the Principal, encapsulating the essence of the shared academic journey and bidding a fond farewell to the departing graduates.

Student Parliaments at Shaheen Degree College Address Social Issues Through Legislative Simulations

In a significant session on July 18, 2023, the Student Parliament of Shaheen Degree College and IAS Academy gathered to discuss and vote on the “Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021.” The bill, aimed at combating child marriage, became the focal point of a simulated legislative process, featuring key participants such as Prime Minister Aqsa Fatima, Home Minister Tahulath Begum, Law Minister Amreen, and Leader of the Opposition Taiseen Fathima.
Prime Minister Aqsa Fatima opened the session with an emphasis on the urgency of protecting children’s rights. Home Minister Tahulath Begum presented compelling arguments in favor of the bill, supported by statistical data and real-life examples highlighting the detrimental effects of child marriage. Law Minister Amreen addressed the legal aspects and implications of the proposed amendments.
Leader of the Opposition Taiseen Fathima raised concerns about potential unintended consequences and questioned the government’s ability to implement the amendments effectively. Following a thoughtful debate, the student parliament voted on the bill, resulting in a narrow margin of 49 votes in favor (Ayes) and 47 votes against (Noes).

Similarly, in another session among the boys’ section, the students debated the “Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.” Prime Minister Yasir Arafat, Home Minister Motiur Rahman, Law Minister Sajid Hasan, and Leader of the Opposition Sayed Saif, along with Opposition Members of Parliament Javed Akhtar and Tauseef, discussed governance structure issues in Delhi.

Prime Minister Yasir Arafat stressed the necessity of proposed amendments for effective administration, and Home Minister Motiur Rahman highlighted the importance of streamlining decision-making processes. The session resulted in a narrow rejection of the bill, with 32 votes in favor (Ayes) and 34 votes against (Noes), reflecting the diverse opinions and complexities of the issue.

On November 18th 2023, Shaheen Degree College hosted a lively Sports Day, organized by Abhilash Sir and overseen by Principal Madam Afra Naz. The event featured engaging competitions in Volleyball and Football, involving students from BA 1st year, PU 1st year, and the Aspirants’ batch. The football final witnessed a spirited match between PU 1st year and BA 1st year, resulting in a victory for BA 1st year. Similarly, the Volleyball final showcased a friendly contest between PU 1st year and the Aspirants’ batch, with the latter emerging as winners. The commendable performance of PU 1st year was acknowledged. In a modest prize distribution ceremony, Principal Afra Naz presented medals to the deserving winners, marking a day of camaraderie and celebration at Shaheen Degree College.
